Fiberglass pools have been a popular alternative to concrete and vinyl liners, because they offer several unique advantages. The main structure of a fiberglass pool is made entirely of fiberglass material.

Advantages of fiberglass pools:

  • Quick installation
Vinyl pools can take several weeks to install and a custom concrete pool will need to wait a few months.
  • Maintenance-free
Fiberglass pools are considered virtually maintenance free, because the material is extremely durable and non-porous. Vinyl pools will have more issues with the vinyl sheet.
  • Durability
With a vinyl pool, you need to be careful not to puncture the liner. Fiberglass pools are much more durable and less likely to be damaged.
  • Lower cost
Fiberglass pools tend to cost significantly less, thanks to the lower installation cost and low maintenance involved.

Deterioration of grouting in swimming pools, water features and fountains is common and can occur due to several environment factors. Deterioration of portland cement-based grouts is a more common than using a high-quality, epoxy-based grout.

The following factors which can caused the grouting to fail are:

  • Improper pool water chemistry maintenance. pH is too low
  • Filling the pool too soon before the grouting is fully dry
  • No allowance for movement as the tiles are placed too close
  • Use of improper grout material
  • Poor surface preparation prior to grouting resulting in poor adhesion to the surface
  • Improper grout and/or tile installation

Is there a special grouting for swimming pools?
Epoxy grout is durable, waterproof, and requires no sealing. Waterproof epoxy grout is a great choice for swimming pools.

Steps to re-grout the swimming pool
  • Using a medium to high pressure water jet to carefully remove the existing grout from between the tiles.
  • Remove loose grouting and water with a wet vacuum
  • Rinse with clean water to remove residual materials and remove any remaining material and water
  • Allow the joints to completely dry before you start to re-grout
